Per Capita GHG Emissions

GHG emissions per capita, for the 11 largest emitters, are led by Qatar, by a substantial margin. Qatar’s per capita emissions grew from about 30 t CO₂eq in 1990 to over 50 t CO₂eq in 2005. They have since declined to under 40 t CO₂eq in 2022; despite having only moderate total GHG emissions of 100 t CO₂eq.

China’s GHG emissions per capita have increased from under 3 t CO₂eq in 1990 to almost 10 t CO₂eq in 2022.

Conversely, US emissions per capita have declined over the same time period from about 26 t CO₂eq to under 19 t CO₂eq.

Similarly, Canada’s emissions have declined from about 22 t CO₂eq to just over 18 t CO₂eq in 2022.
