CO2 represented 73% of global GHG emissions in 2018. World CO2 emissions increased 58% from 1990 to 2018 and reached 34,800 Mt.

China is the largest emitter of CO2 accounting for over a quarter of the worlds total at 9,700 Mt emissions in 2018 (28%). China is followed by US with 4,800 Mt (14%) and India at 2,400 Mt (7%). Indonesia, Japan, Russia, Brazil, Germany, Iran, and Canada all range from 1,600 to 600 Mt (4%-2%). The remainder of the world accounts for about 1/3 of the total at 11,800 Mt.
