Liquids rich gas is produced in the southern area of Eagle Ford on the Texas Gulf Coast. Currently most development is focused in oil portion of the basin. Since 2010, about 1050 wells have been drilled. Average new gas well initial productivity (IP) in Eagle Ford (7.5 MMcf/d in 2020) is lower than in other Shale basins, such as Marcellus and Utica. Active gas development is expected when current core acreage in tier 1 Shale basins is exhausted in about 2030. Average first year decline in 2017 was 70%.
Eagle Ford gas production peaked at just under 1.0 Bcf/d in the 2013-15 period. Post 2030, gas production is expected to increase from 0.4 Bcf/d to 2.8 Bcf/d by 2040.
