Reserves life index is total proved reserves booked by largest Canadian companies divided by total production for certain calendar year. Since proved reserves can be booked only if oil and gas production is expected within a short time frame, Reserves life index is a measure of company’s readiness to be engage in development and production. In 2019, the weighted average proved Gas Reserve Life Index of Canadian companies was 13.4 years, almost the same as in 2018 (13.5 years). Painted Pony has largest reserves life index – over 28 years, followed by Birchcliff, Crew, and Advantage. PrairieSky, Repsol, and Shell have lowest reserves life index below 6 years.
