US EV registrations (annual additions) accelerated sharply after 2021 and remain overwhelmingly car-led through 2024. Total BEV + PHEV new registrations increased from about 0.29 million in 2020 to approximately 1.53 million in 2024. Growth was particularly strong in 2022–2023, reaching a peak of about 1.81 million in 2023, before easing in 2024. Passenger cars dominate EV registrations throughout the dataset. In 2024, cars contributed ~1.50 million registrations (1.2M BEV + 0.3M PHEV), or roughly 98% of total EV additions. Cars–BEV remains the main driver, rising to 1.4 million in 2023 and settling at 1.2 million in 2024, while Cars–PHEV reached 0.3 million in 2024.
