The chart shows the average efficiency of new BEV (fully electric) models that have been introduced worldwide and not yet discontinued in subsequent years. These EVs include passenger cars, SUVs, vans, and pickup trucks. Efficiency is expected to remain mostly flat over the next few years. Higher efficiency is typically observed in midstream passenger car models, while large SUVs and pickup trucks tend to be less efficient. Average efficiency changed from 160 Wh/km in 2020 to around 190 Wh/km in 2022–2023, peaking at 195 Wh/km in 2024, partly due to the introduction of heavier and less efficient vehicles.
